Taking Care of Business

The idea of taking on a business of my own is absolutely horrifying. At the same time, it is one of the most invigorating concepts that I have ever come upon.

Over the past few years it has become increasingly clearer to me that life is not meant to be governed by our fears and failures. As my friend Tim Brown taught me well over the last year, life's chances taste better when taken with an attitude of asking for forgiveness rather than permission.

Chasing after our passions and hurdling over the obstacles along the way may lead to a need for redirection. But, as long as we learn from the corrections, our once labeled “failures” can be marked down in the book of wins.

I foresee many “wins” in my book. I have every intention of learning a great deal and using the passions embedded in who I am to bring the best out of those around me. I see chasing after this idea of running my own business as a great opportunity for forgiveness.

From here I just pray that my capacity for learning doesn’t outweigh the world’s capacity for forgiveness.

I will always see myself as someone who has something to learn. However, at the end of the day, if we can’t find it in us to look ourselves in the eyes with our own stern grimace and deliver that motivational speech that finally gets us past the mindset of being a student and sets us on the path of taking on our destiny in life then we will never reach… well, our destiny.

Not everyone dreams of owning their own business. At the end of the day, I don’t dream of owning my own business. But starting a business is a great way to take the next leap forward on my forgivable path that is heading not so directly toward my destiny of bringing the best out of those around me. So onward we go, my friends!

I love you, goodbye.
